The Last of Us Part 3: Release Date, Trailers, Gameplay, and More

The Last of Us tied up its own story with some mystery, but it never needed a sequel. However, Neil Druckmann and the folks at Naughty Dog saw more stories left to explore in that realm of fiction which brings us to what are amazing as well The Last Of Us Part 2. Unlike the first game, which had none (save for a fiend conference-room ending), this sequel story raised weighty unanswered questions requiring further tales to be told.

While the team originally was working a multiplayer spinoff called The Last of Us Online we now know that project is dead and once again they're turning their attention to single player. Indeed, one of those games is The Last of Us Part 3. Though it was unclear when this would happen, we know a third chapter is coming for sure - but what else have we been able to glean while tiptoeing around Clickers? Let your ears perk up and get all the info we have on The Last of Us Part 3.

We do not, however, know to what extent The Last of Us Part 3 is being worked on at Naughty Dog and when it would even release. The rate at which The Last of Us Part 3 seems more likely given Naughty Dog's propensity toward quality and polish, we may very well not see it until even later than a hypothetical 2027. 

Platforms

All we can say with a high degree of certainty is that The Last of Us Part 3 will launch on PS5. Well, unless the game takes so long that we see a next-generation system released and they opt not to cross-gen it - you can rest assured games will be on your PS5. 

Given that both of its predecessors have arrived on PC, The Last of Us Part 3 is likely in the cards as well. Previous games arrived more than a year later on PC too, so while things might still change by the time it actually hits its 2014 release date you can bet that if and when Dishonored 2 does comes to computer it will be at least twelve months after every other person has played their copy.  

Trailers 

It is safe to say not one trailer, no screenshot and also there has been nothing regarding the concept art for The Last of Us Part 3. That nothing is more than a few words about it at the highest level.

We previously heard Naughty Dog comment about singe-player projects in its statement on The Last of Us Online, which said: “we have multiple ambitious new single player game titles that we are working own here at Naughty Dog, and Look forward to wondering more about when they come out.” 

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered also came with the making-of documentary, Grounded 2. Druckmann ended by discussing the possibility of a Part 3. I was very much with, “I am thinking what the concept there could be? Well, for years now, I have not been able to locate that point. But recently, that’s changed. I do not have a story, but I do now that concept which to me is as exciting as II- and even more so because it its everything Ive wanted from this film universe — the real shared throughline of all three. So it feels like there's got to be one more, some sort of chapter to this story. 

Gameplay

Both The Last of Us games are similar in that they mix stealth-action gameplay with scarcity management and light horror. E3 2019 almost certainly arrives with no escape from Borderlands hysteria, what is now beginning to sound like the foundation of a third game - though we'd have expected just as much when thinking back on how its predecessor inherited gameplay roles and responsibilities. 

Preorder 

Now that The Last of Us Part 3 has been announced, we all knew it'd take a very long time to actually see the game come together -- and thus far we're still pretty early in development. Thus, do not expect to see much development or additional info for a long time. As a result, preorders for the title are simply not happening yet and probably won't anytime soon. Fans will have to wait as Naughty Dog gets ready for the next game in this well renowned series, more updates and further announcements can be expected over time.
